Meet the crew: Sean Smith, Water Cooler Technician

For someone who likes driving around and fixing things, Sean says being the PASLR Water Cooler Technician is everything he ever wanted in a job.

From residential homes to large industrial sites all over greater Auckland, Sean sanitises and services water coolers, ensuring our customers have clean safe drinking water.

Prior to joining the team in September 2025, Sean managed a gym for eight years. “Because I like to tinker with things I became the unofficial technician for the franchise and would get phone calls from other gyms to come and fix their treadmills and equipment,” he explains. “Now, I’m finally getting paid for fixing things which I love.”

Having worked in the industry for fourteen years, it’s not surprising Sean still spends a lot of time in the gym. It’s something he enjoys doing with his young son Tobias. “We both have a lot of energy so the gym is good for us – we live in Browns Bay so spend a lot of time at the beach and skatepark too.”

Outside of work, life is busing with dad jobs like cooking and chasing Tobias around the place and Sean says he is grateful for the flexibility of his schedule to be there for school pickups.

Tip from the field: Auckland Council recycles our water really nicely, but it can be the pipes between your water meter and your house that you need to worry about. If you’re worried about what’s happening to your water on the way to the tap a simple DIY Water Test is a great place to start.
