Pucci the well-travelled work cat

Karyn and her partner adopted Pucci, a Turkish Angora, when he was just ten months old and he quickly became an inseparable part of their family. For five years, they lived on the eleventh floor of a high-rise apartment building in Dubai … until in 2023 they moved across the world to New Zealand.

Pucci’s story

“I was living a life of luxury until my mama dropped the bombshell, “We’re moving to New Zealand!” Before I could protest, I was whisked away for a 17-hour flight, bracing the turbulence and looking forward to a new life down under.

But my adventure didn’t end there, I was in quarantine for ten days where I was taken care of by strangers and endured a daily inspection of my royal fur. Finally, the day came when I was reunited with my mama and graciously accepted my new Kiwi surroundings along with unlimited petting as compensation for my ordeal.

Now that we are settled in, I visit my mom at work to check if she is working hard, occasionally glaring at birds out the window and enjoying tuna feast for dinner. After all, it’s the royal treatment that I deserve.”

Karyn’s story

“The journey to get Pucci to New Zealand was no small feat. He underwent a series of treatments and vaccinations to prepare for his big move. We travelled ahead of him, leaving him in trusted care, and two months later, he followed.

New Zealand offered a whole new world for Pucci, with its cooler weather and lush green spaces. We’ve taken him to parks, on hikes, and even camping, introducing him to the great outdoors. While he’s a little hesitant to walk outside he’s slowly getting used to it.

Every now and then, I bring Pucci to work. He loves exploring the office, peeking out the windows with wide, curious eyes. Though he’s a little shy when others are around, preferring the comfort of his bag, he waits patiently for my lunch break when we can have some quiet time together. My colleagues adore him for his calm demeanour and gentle curiosity.

Now that we’ve settled into our new home, life feels complete. Watching Pucci thrive in this new environment has been incredibly rewarding. His journey from Dubai to New Zealand is a testament to how far we’ll go for the ones we love. Here’s to more memories, more adventures, and a future filled with love and purrs!”
